Are you planning to attend the Browncoat Ball? Hoping to? Definitely not coming, want to live vicariously through those who are? Introduce yourself here. I'll start.

Firefly was the first form of visual media that made me understand and embrace 'fandom'. I used to make fun of those who dressed up as characters and went to cons. I get it now. My blissful penance is to enjoy the company of tremendously talented, intelligent, and compassionate Browncoats, while being teased for my fannish ebullience by the Mundanes in my life.

I have never had the pleasure of attending a Browncoat Ball, however this year, I will try to make it happen.

Can't go wrong picking the browncoatball, esp. when it is being held in Portland, Oregon. This town has everything a person could desire & when paired with like-minded folks it can't get any better. I've lived in Portland for 30 years & still am in love with the city and state.

Grinder here ('the artist formerly known as Kryten' for those of you from the PDX forums).

I wish I could say I'd be attending all days, but I'll probably be limited to one. Still, it'd be a great chance to see everyone and meet new people!

Well I missed last year's BCB, but don't intend to let that happen again. I will be making the cross country trip from Boston. Already have the time off from work.

I think several of you know me from various cons, forums, PA shindigs etc. I hope a few other eastern browncoats make the trek.

Before this year I had never even been to the west coast before. I always seemed to travel north, east and south but never west (even though I went to school in Colorado). A couple of close friends moved to SF over the summer so I have been there a few times now, but have yet to see the rest of the west coast. Portland has been one of the cities I have particularly wanted to see so it should work out well.

Very Excited,
Jason

My neighbor is from Boston & he tells me how wonderful it is... especially the sports Smile What cons have you attended? Maybe we crossed paths before. Looking forward to the ball and meeting you.

I am not a sports guy by any means. Going to the ballet is more my style (no laughing... seriously... I WILL end you). As for cons I am not a huge con guy but went to Dragon Con the year of Serenity, Icon a few times (when Jewel was there and once more), and some local Boston ones. I have been to all the infamous PA shindigs (on the horse farm) and went to the Philly BCB. So pretty much all east coast events. I am moderately active in the NE Browncoats here in Boston and New Hampshire. I will try to post a photo here so you can at least recognize my face.

Nothing too juicy... well maybe the ground the third year when we had 10 inches of rain. Just hanging out, games, singin', horse rides Very Happy, and watching firefly/movies on the side of the barn late in to the evening. Very Happy

Aaaahhhh! I've always wanted to set up some kind of large (even bedsheet) viewing of Firefly in the park right off the side of my condo. It's only about an acre, though, and I'd have to work it out with about 30 homes and an elderly center. Doubt that would work, but I've always thought it would be cool to have an outside viewing of the show or movie in a park setting. Sad

Sure sounds like my kind of shindig Very Happy

We talked about showing Firefly on blank walls here in Portland when the weather improves... might have to really explore this.

Last year some of us talked about how cool it would be to watch Firefly outside... I'm in Cool

My plan has changed somewhat. Instead of coming down from Seattle I will likely be coming up from the SF Bay area via train and then taking a red eye back to Boston on Sunday. Can you suggest things to do between breakfast and about 9PM on Sunday in Portland?

Hi everybody! I'm gonna do my "darndest" to make it down from Seattle; it'll be my first BCB, and who knows when it'll be in our corner of the continent again. Plus I loooove PDX; lived there for several years as a kid. Anyway, wish me luck! BTW don't believe my webcam; I'm not really blue--quite pink in fact. tongue
Cheers,
Larisa

Hi All You Shiny Folk!

I'm just firming up my plans and it looks like I will be joining all of you for a dance or two! Smile I'm totally excited, for while I currently reside in the grand Core City of New York, I'm actually from the Outer Rim town of Gresham! Smile This will also be my third ball so I'm looking forward to seeing familiar faces and meeting new ones.

Til then!
Emily Smile

Welcome back to your old stomping grounds, Emily! Although I'm not sure we'll be gettin' out to Gresham. Smile Excited to hear you'll be joining us for the shindig of the year.

Nihao!

Tequila Matt here. Some of you know me, some of you do not. I was a member of the committee that ran the 2007 Browncoat Ball in Philadelphia, PA. That was my first BCB and I didn't make it to Austin, TX last year -- though I've been to various PA Shindigs over the years, CSTS events in Philly and Pittsburgh, Shoreleave and Farpoint in Maryland, and Dragon*Con in Atlanta.

I am seriously considering traveling out to Portland, OR for this year's BCB. (Portland has been calling to me the last few years and it may be time to give in.) I don't think any of my crew members are up for the journey, so I was wondering what the room-sharing situation was like. Is anyone looking for or open to taking on a roommate to reduce costs?
